DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
It took big dreams for an Albertville family to start their battery and tire business; 60 years later, they are still in business.
The company celebrated their anniversary Friday by hauling in a national icon to showcase.
"Dad started after World War Two selling batteries, and then it turned into the tire business; so, we're in the tire and battery business," said Shane Wilks, owner of Wilks Tire and Battery.
He took a chance and asked a major corporation for a little help; to much surprise, Goodyear said yes.
Friday, the Goodyear Blimp traveled the skies above Marshall County taking major customers of Wilks' up for a ride; and riding a blimp is a lot different than riding a commercial aircraft.
"Twenty or 30 miles an hour, you get to see a lot of stuff and we see people waving. We'll hang or arms out and wave back," said James Kosmos, the Goodyear Blimp pilot.
It was a smooth ride and quite a treat to ride in something that covers major sporting events all across the nation.
Wilks hopes his customers and the community enjoyed, quite possibly, this once in a lifetime event.
"Albertville is a great community, and so we just wanted something as big as the blimp here for our event."
