MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
A new court filing shows Kimberly McLaughlin is asking for a new trial.
She said the new trial is needed because there wasn't sufficient evidence to support a guilty verdict.
McLaughlin's defense claims the jury ignored the un-contradicted testimony of a psychologist who testified that McLaughlin suffered a severe mental defect when she killed her mother in 2008.
McLaughlin was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in May.
