HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

People all over the county took part in a stand up for religion rally Friday.

The grass-roots effort was aimed at overturning a key provision of the Obama health care reform law.

The rally was sponsored by an organization that opposes the Obama administration's mandate that employer's provide worker with birth control coverage.

Not everyone attending was in agreement with the group's mission. At Whitesburg Baptist Church, crowds with signs and flags stood up for religious freedom.

"'We are standing up to say this is a religious freedom this is a first constitution  issue that the government should not be trampling on the rights of what our very government is designed to protect," said Charles Orr with the Christian Citizen Task Force.

Members of the Huntsville stand up for religious freedom rally said they are demanding that all the laws, including Obama Care, respect religious freedom.

Dr. Jody Hice with Freedom Ring Ministries hoped the rally sends a message to the country's leaders.

"'People are scared people are frightened people are willing to get involved to say it's time to put a stop to this," said Hice.

A counter protest took place across the road from the religious freedom rally.

"'As much as we respect their protest is about freedom of religion, they have freedom of religion," said demonstrator Clet Weli. "I think the argument is really about the affordable health care act: women's access to contraception we believe strongly in that and a woman's right to chose."

Pamela Waters said the message is clear.

"'We just don't want people stepping on our rights. It's about choice; we don't want to tell them what to do. We don't want them telling us what to do."
