DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
The neighbors of a DeKalb County woman caught a burglar as he was fleeing the scene.
DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said a neighbor alerted authorities to the burglary Wednesday afternoon on County Road 386 in the Kilpatrick community.
As the victim got out of her car, a neighbor told her that two men were running from the back entrance of her house. He also alerted other neighbors in the area and they started a search for the two burglars.
One of the burglars, 41-year-old Franklin Ray Elkins of Arab, was caught and turned over to responding deputies. The other offender has not been caught.
According to investigators, the back door of the victim's house was forced open and the bedroom was in disarray. A pillowcase was found to be missing. Nothing else was reported missing.
Elkins was charged with third degree burglary and was booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
