JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Jackson
County officials gave advice to prevent your car being repossessed.
This
comes on the heels of a case in Jackson County where a man's car was stolen by
two people claiming they were there to repossess his vehicle.
Jackson
County Sheriff's officials said that your car can be repossessed if payments
are late, but there are things you can do to keep from being swindled.
Jackson
County Sheriff Chuck Phillips said repo companies usually tell the sheriff's
department they are going to repo a car before they do it, but they are not
required to. He said it does help them in the future if the owner tries to
claim the vehicle was stolen.
Phillips
said you can ask for their paperwork, which will include a description of the
car, who they're getting it for and possibly a copy of the title.
If you
still have suspicions, you can contact local law enforcement.
Phillips
said the crime does not happen often and the Jackson County incident was the
first they've seen in many years with the department.
