ARAB, AL (WAFF) -

Residents of Arab may notice military style vehicles driving along the city's streets, but police say it's not martial law.

The Arab Police Department recently acquired four humvees through government surplus.

Chief Ed Ralston said they dressed one up, changing its color to black, adding police logos, along with giving it lights so that it can be used for public relations for local schools.

But he said their main use will be for duty in bad weather.

"When that bad weather comes and we need those four wheel drive vehicles, these as you know are all four wheel drive, and can go about anywhere you want them to.  So with four of them, I think they will be very important to us when the time is needed," said Ralston.

He said the price was right too.

It only cost the price of transportation which was about $350 each.
