GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
With the start of the summer tourism season, officials at Lake Guntersville State Park are working to have more facilities operational after last year's tornado damage.
Last year around Memorial Day, park officials struggled to get a portion of the golf course open.
Friday, strides were made and officials are working to open more of the park. The golf course is not only open but also the pro shop after it was recently renovated. Ten cabins have opened and five are under construction after they were destroyed by the April 27 storms.
As of Friday, nearly 160 campsites were opened. Crews are working to open as many as 60 more and another bath house.
"Over all, it's coming; it's coming around," said Nick Guinn, acting assistant superintendent. "Getting back to normal I guess you would say."
The park lodge has open availabilities and tourists can call to make reservations.
