FLORENCE – University of North Alabama head women's basketball coach Terry Fowler has announced the addition of Arkansas State transfer Mekena Randle to the 2012-13 roster. The Madison, native will move closer to home after playing two seasons for the NCAA Division I Red Wolves.
"Mekena is a really good defender and rebounder who has the ability to make plays due to her athleticism and motor," said Fowler. "We expect her to contribute immediately on the court."
Randle saw action in 39 games over two seasons at ASU. Last year, she had high-point games of five in wins over Southeast Missouri and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where she also pulled down 11 rebounds.
At the prep level, Randle averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals per game at Bob Jones High School. She was a first team All-Metro selection and played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and was a member of the AHSAA area, regional and Final 48 all-tournament teams.
"Mekena brings a winner's mentality and a lot of toughness to our program," Fowler added. "We are getting a proven winner on and off the court. I can't wait to see her in a UNA uniform."
