HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Police reported a 19-year-old woman told them she was raped while visiting
friends Monday evening.
The victim said a male acquaintance invited her to stay at his house
overnight. She told investigators she fell asleep and that's when the man had
intercourse with her against her will. It happened at the 3600 block on
Dawnwood Drive in Huntsville around 5:30 Monday.
Rape counselors have said most victims know their attacker. According to
RAINN, Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, someone in the United States is
assaulted every two minutes and every year, there are more than 200,000 victims
of sexually assaulted. 44 percent of victims are under the age of 18 and 80
percent are under the age of 30.
Huntsville police are still investigating this case.
