GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Alabama authorities released encouraging
boating statistics from last year.
Alabama Marine Police said there were only
four accidents on Lake Guntersville last year. Five vessels were involved.
There were only two injuries and no deaths.
Marine Police also said that alcohol was not
a factor in any of the accident.
Officials said that is very good since there
are 25,000 registered boats in Marshall, Madison, Morgan, Jackson and DeKalb
Counties.
Nationwide, the Coast Guard reported 758
boating related deaths last year and even more injuries.
Officials recommended always wearing a life
jacket when on the water.
"You got the boats that are moving
around," said Paul Segura with the U.S. Coast Guard. "There are wakes that are
coming off of other people's boats, waves. You're gonna bounce around. You
could hit your head off your boat. You could fall into the water."
They also said to carry a fire extinguisher
and marine radio and to always alert someone of your activities so they can
report an accident.
