HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police are on a manhunt for the man who robbed the North Alabama Educators Credit Union.

Investigators said a man entered the bank and showed a weapon to the teller at 3 p.m. at the Whitesburg Drive location.

The offender got away with an unknown amount of cash.

They brought a canine unit to help search for the man.

Southside Baptist Church is a few feet away from the bank.  Church members there said the sight of canines and cop cars was very startling.

"We were getting ready for our garage sale and we looked out the window and we saw police cars going over toward that bank and then we saw the police with some dogs that we going through the parking lot," said Lisa Lowell. "We were very afraid. We went straight around making sure all the doors were locked so that we were protected."

Lyn's Gracious Goodness is across the street from the credit union.  Worker Lamesa Robbins said she moved quickly when she saw all the commotion.

"The first thing we did is everybody locked their cars, the building to make sure that we were secure," Robbins said.  "I had no idea what was going on."

Now that police have a clear picture of who made the illegal transaction at the bank, businesses hope the next picture police will have of the crook is his mug shot.
