Thompson Garners Fifth Coach of the Year Honor

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the organization's region athletes and coaches of the year for the 2012 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field season on Thursday, and Soyini Thompson of the University of Alabama in Huntsville track and field was named the South Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.

It is the fifth career honor for Thompson, and first since garnering four consecutive South Region Assistant Coach of the Year accolades from 2007-10.

Indoors, the ninth-year coach led two athletes to provisional times (60 meters and 4×400-meter relay) and four school records in the sprints and jumps. Outdoors, her sprinters made the national list in both relays and the Chargers have two entries into this year's NCAA Championships.

Thompson and the Chargers will be on hand for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for next weekend, May 24-26, in Pueblo, Colo. will provide live coverage of the national championships.
