BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Jacksonville State men's golf team got its first look at The Club at Olde Stone on Wednesday morning, when the Gamecocks played their practice round for the 2012 Bowling Green Regional that will begin on Thursday.

The Ohio Valley Conference champion Gamecocks will play the par-72, 7,248-yard course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as the 12th seeded team in the 14-team regional. The top five teams at the end of the 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA Championship from May 29-June 3 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

JSU's second-straight NCAA appearance will begin at 9:10 a.m., when freshman Dylan Shephard tees off on the 388-yard par four 10th hole. JSU is paired with Colorado State and Iowa State in the first round.

The Gamecocks are on a bit of a hot streak heading into the regional, having won their last two events. They claimed their Grub Mart Intercollegiate at Silver Lakes on April 10 before winning the OVC Championship on April 28. Through 11 tournaments in the 2011-12 season, JSU has finished in the top five in all but one event.

JSU is led by senior Tom Robson, who is wrapping up a career that has seen him claim three-straight All-OVC honors. The Portsmouth, England, native tied for this in the OVC in scoring average (73.0) this season and led the Gamecocks to a league-best 292.9 stroke average as a team. The other senior on the squad, Alfonso Otoya, shot his best stroke average of his career this season, averaging just over 74 per round.

Freshman Tomasz Anderson has stormed onto the scene in his first year of collegiate golf. The Herfordshire, England, native earned OVC Freshman of the Year honors in a season that he started by winning medalist honors at the Golfweek Program Challenge. He won the event by shooting a school-record 15-under 201 in the 54-hole event.
