LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
A doctor facing charges appeared before a federal judge Wednesday afternoon for an arraignment hearing.
Dr. Diana McCutcheon is charged with fraud.
She appeared in federal court with her attorney, Robert Tuten.
McCutcheon pleaded not guilty to the 96-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court.
She's accused of billing Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare for non-reimbursable cosmetic skin treatments totaling $1.3-million.
"Dr. McCutcheon is convinced this is a paperwork mix up. It is easy to mix up numbers and transpose a number on a code. It could practically invalidate the entire bill. She believes that is what's happened here. She is certainly willing to repay any money she was wrongfully paid and she does not deserve," said Tuten.
McCutcheon was ordered to turn over her passport and she was given a $25,000 unsecured bond that she will have to pay if she fails to appear in court.
Tuten said he was given a packet of documents by the prosecution on Wednesday in which the government claims will substantiate the charges and allegations against McCutcheon.
