GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Rescue teams in Marshall County are looking for a man who may have jumped off a bridge in Guntersville.

Guntersville police said the call was credible but they are now having a hard time substantiating that someone was hurt.

Rescue crews continued to work Monday dragging the river bottom at the Highway 431 bridge in search of a body. Chief Jim Peterson said they received a call from a woman crossing over the bridge around 6:30 Sunday evening who said she watched a man jump off the top portion of the bridge.

Police arrived soon after and Peterson said there was no sign of a man or even a boat anywhere near the bridge.

"We only had that one call last night, and one witness," said Peterson. "We've not had any other independent information that anyone is missing.  We don't have any cars in the area that are unaccounted for, nor any boats that are unaccounted for in the area."

The rescue team searched the river until 10 Sunday night..

Peterson said there are elements that made him believe no one was hurt. He said rescue teams have identified a couple of targets found by sonar and the search continues.
