FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
Florence residents placed mock grave markers up of local businesses near the site of the new Walmart.
The grave markers were placed near the information on a rezoning meeting for a new Walmart. The signs were placed in opposition of the Walmart. The signs had messages of "RIP" and local stores.
The owner of Massey Drug Store said he had no opinion on the deal and feels bad for the residents.
Other residents said they are against the bringing the super center to the area.
"Walmart will take away a lot of the businesses that are around here and the little conveniences; stores that we're doing business with now will be gone and because of the competition within 3 to 4 years we feel the eight or ten or 12 businesses will be closed here," Coy Bramlett, against rezoning.
People are also concerned with the increased traffic flow, a decrease in property values and the future of the Coffee Cemetery. A meeting will be held tomorrow night on the rezoning.
