COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Authorities in Colbert County seized more than 10 pounds of marijuana.
The offenders tried to mail the package. Officials were notified that it was supposed to be delivered to a home in Sheffield.
Drug agents were able to intercept the package from a sender in Texas. Their drug dogs got a positive hit on the box and when they opened it, they found just over 10 pounds of marijuana in two air tight bags.
Officials said the marijuana had a street value of $10,000.
Curtis Burns, director of the Colbert County drug task force said the seizure would not have been possible if it were not for the tip from a community member.
"We have to have the public's help in order to do our job so any time they can help we encourage it, and it's just going to make it a safer place to live," said Burns.
The person the package was destined for has been arrested but his name has not been released.
