North Alabama fugitive captured in Birmingham

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A fugitive from north Alabama was captured Thursday in Birmingham.

Investigators in DeKalb county tipped off Birmingham police officers before 46 year old Lionel Lopez could get away. Lopez, of Collinsville, was arrested around 4:00 yesterday evening.

DeKalb county deputies learned Lopez was on his way to Birmingham to catch a Greyhound bus, possibly to leave the state. Deputies alerted the Birmingham Police department, and they responded to the bus station.

Officers located the suspect as he entered the restroom and took him into custody without incident.

Lopez was wanted on a charge of Sexual Abuse of a Child. He remains in the Jefferson county jail with no bond.
