FAYETTEVILL, TN (WAFF) -
Charles McKinney had his fist court appearance in Fayetteville, Tennessee Thursday.
The judge said McKinney will be appointed a public defender due to lack of assets. McKinney said his family may be hiring an attorney.
McKinney is charged with murdering his wife, Courtney McKinney. Police said McKinney shot his wife inside their apartment on Wilson Park Monday.
Investigators have not released a possible motive yet.
