FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WAFF) -

The child present during a domestic dispute in Fayetteville has been turned over to child protective services.

Police arrested 23-year-old Charles McKinney for killing his wife in their Taylor Way apartment Monday morning on Wilson Parkway.

Neighbors say they heard seven gunshots from the apartment. They say McKinney ran out of the apartment with his 3-year-old and handed the child to a neighbor and then held a gun to his own head.

Police have not released a motive behind the shooting. Police say they confronted McKinney and found his wife, 22-year-old Courtney McKinney, dead inside the apartment.

The couple had only lived there for two or three days before the shooting.

McKinney is being held on a $950,000 bond.
