MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

National Drug Court Month is busier than ever in Madison County.

In 2011, Madison County Drug Court graduated 65 people.

Judge Lynn Sherrod, founder of the drug court, says it costs $2800 to keep one person in drug court for a year. It costs $38,000 to hold them in jail that long.

"In 2011, drug court saved Madison County and the citizens of Alabama more than $2.2-million. We believe drug court works," she said.

The Madison County Family Drug Court and the Partnership for Drug-Free Community will host a forum on prescription drugs and other abused drugs on May 15th.

It's an effort to bring awareness to programs to help those who abuse drugs.
