Crews responded to the scene of a fatal accident near the Tennessee state line.
The Lincoln County sheriff's department and Alabama State Troopers responded to a one car accident on Highway 231 near McDougal Lane.
The driver, identified as Daniel Franklin Lawless of Hazel Green, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The trooper's report shows Lawless was traveling north at an excessive speed when he lost control, slid off the roadway, and collided with a metal utility pole. He was ejected from the car.
The accident split the car in half.
"Speed was definitely a factor in the crash, there's no question about that. As far as any other contributing factors we don't know as of yet," said Joe Wynne, Tennessee State Trooper.
The sheriff's department and State Troopers are investigating the accident.
