HUNTSVILLE, AL (AP) -
The Boeing Co. is marking its 50th anniversary in Alabama.
The aerospace company started doing business in the state in 1962 during the space race, and this week it's marking the golden anniversary.
Gov. Robert Bentley will be in Huntsville for an event on Wednesday, and the company played host to a celebration for employees and retirees on Monday.
Boeing is the state's largest aerospace employer with 2,600 workers and 425 suppliers. Aside from working on NASA's new heavy-lift rocket and supporting the International Space Station, Boeing has offices for missile and ground-based defense programs in Huntsville.
Boeing helped build the Saturn V moon rockets and lunar rovers during the 1960s.
