FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A new industry is coming to the town of Fort Payne and they're bringing jobs with them.

The former Sara Lee facility will become the new home for a plastics recycling plant.

Officials with Jet Polymer Recycling made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. They were moving out of their 50,000 square foot facility in Rainsville and into this 350,000 square foot facility in Fort Payne.

The company sets up recycling operations in primarily automotive suppliers where their scrap is collected. It is then brought to their facility to be reground into pellets where it can be shipped off and reused.

Company officials say they're putting about two-and-a-half million dollars into upgrading the building and say their choice location to expand was the right one.

"There is nowhere else in the southeast is there a 350,000 square foot facility that's set up for this. It's got all the truck docks. It's got all the rails. It's got the silos in the back where we can store material. It's fully sprinkled. It's got all the office space so after a long search this was really the ideal place," said Jase Traylor, VP of Jet Polymer Recycling.

They're transferring about 40 jobs to begin with and expecting to ramp up to 100 in the next two years. Production on the plant is expected to begin in three months.
