SYLVANIA, AL (WAFF) -

Mayor Mitchell Dendy of Sylvania has resigned.

Sylvania town workers found a letter of resignation Tuesday. A councilman said he cleaned out his desk and left a note sometime Monday night.

Dendy was fired as chief administrator of the DeKalb County Jail after sexual misconduct, impropriety and harassment charges.

The council has 60 days to fill the position. If the position is not filled, Governor Robert Bentley will have 30 days to make an appointment. A special election will be called if the position is not filled after 90 days.

Max Turner, the Sylvania Mayor Pro-Tem said the council will talk about a replacement at their next city council meeting next Tuesday.
