OWENS CROSS ROADS, AL (WAFF) -

Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff's Department dug up the yard of a home on Hill Road and used cadaver dogs to search for a missing woman.

Mary Carrithers has been missing for about a year. The home at 309 Hill Road was the last place she was seen. Carrithers' estranged husband recently moved from the house.

The new homeowners gave investigators permission to search the property, but it did not turn up the possible remains of Carrithers.

Investigators say she was last spotted at this property where her estranged husband once lived. Her cell phone was also last used 50 yards away from the home.

After police abandoned the dig, Carrithers' sister posted on a Facebook page set up to help find her.

She wrote "I know she was not found, but let's hope she will show up soon. Please don't let my sister leave your mind."

The Davis family has only lived in the home four days and was shocked to learn about the connection to a missing person's case.

"She wasn't here, but maybe they will find her," said Jonathan Davis, homeowner.

"Even if you can't find her alive, her family deserves to know where she is," said Sandra Davis, who lives in home.

Investigators have not named any suspects but are asking the public to come forward with any leads to her whereabouts.
