NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police in Nashville said Wednesday they have uncovered the kind of drug bust even they aren't used to seeing. More than $1.3 million in cash, 200 pounds of marijuana and more than 20 firearms were seized.

Authorities said they received a tip about drugs coming from Alabama, which allowed them to make a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 65.

Metro officers worked with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and police in Smyrna and Maury County.

"Drugs, crime don't pay. You know, we got them. And we got their money," said Maury County Sheriff Enoch George.

Three people were arrested in the I-65 traffic stop. Five other people were arrested in Maury and Rutherford counties in connection with the case.

"Anytime an individual is doing this weight in marijuana, then there's a potential for violence," said Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold.

Police believe Christopher Tuttle was the leader of the entire operation. His father and step-mother were among those also arrested.

"They accumulated all this money and had all this money in store hid out somewhere, and they never did get any benefit out of it," George said.

Police have arrested Christopher Tuttle, Tammy Tuttle, Jerry Tuttle, Nathan Phillips, Shawn Evans, Ronald Hall, Scotty Jones and James Jones.

Each suspect has been charged with felony marijuana possession and distribution.
