MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -
Lawmakers plan to hear comments from the public today on Alabama's revised Immigration law.
Members with the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice are asking Senate Judiciary committee members to allow enough time for people to make statements, before voting on the bill.
The revised version of the Immigration law passed in the House last week. The House Public Safety and Homeland Security committee approved some changes to the law. One of the changes allows police officers to check the citizenship of a driver or passenger after they've issued a citation.
Members with the ACIJ said the revised version is being rushed through the legislative process and that the hearing was scheduled without giving the public a 24 hour notice to provide input.
The public hearing will start at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery.
