KILLEN, AL (WAFF) -
Several students were injured in a bus accident in Lauderdale County Tuesday morning.
The bus was involved in a wreck with a truck at the intersection of County Road 25 and County Road 144 at 7:30 a.m.
37 students were on board at the time of the accident. One student was taken to the hospital by ambulance, seven others were taken by parents. Some of them possibly had broken bones. One adult was also injured.
Angela marks says she was watching TV Tuesday morning at her home.
"I heard a loud noise and I looked out the kitchen window and saw the bus in the back yard," she said.
She said she saw a bus full of students just feet away from her home and a mangled pickup truck in the road.
School officials say the two people in the truck were also Rogers High School students. Both of them were sent to the hospital. One was taken to the hospital by ambulance, the other was taken by a parent.
Lauderdale County Superintendent William Valentine credits the quick thinking of the bus driver.
"He did an excellent job in controlling the bus after the fact and taking care of the children and making the call he did exactly what he was supposed to do when he was supposed to do it."
The driver of the truck was also injured.
All the students involved were from Rogers School.
Neighbors say the intersection where the crash happened is dangerous.
