HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Several recent robberies in the Huntsville area have police on alert.

There were three robberies and an ATM theft over this past weekend alone.

Police said a man was robbed at knife point at a Regions ATM in Huntsville Saturday around midnight.

On Sunday, thieves ripped an ATM from the ground at a CB&S bank near Hampton Cove. Hours later, police said armed robbers hit a hair salon on Jordan Lane.

The weekend of robberies followed two armed robberies at a Dollar General and a Family dollar just one week prior.

Huntsville Police spokesperson Dr. Harry Hobbs said they have extra patrol in the neighborhood to address recent robbery and burglary cases.

There were nine robberies last week compared to 13 the week before, according to police. Overall, police said there were 129 robberies in Huntsville this year, compared to 124 at this time last year.

As for burglaries, police said there were 59 last week compared to 57 the week before. There have been 698 burglaries this year compared to 661 last year, police said.

The police department's robbery task force advised the community to provide any tips that will assist police in making an arrest.

"What we want to tell our citizens and business owners is take every precaution possible. If you're in a business, please ensure that your business is well lit, that your surveillance system is operating, that at closing time if possible, you have two attendants there," said Dr. Hobbs.

Police also say they're increasing patrol at easy-access stores around closing time to help prevent some of these crimes.
