A group of German police officers is in the valley to observe how Huntsville officers serve and protect the community.

The two female and three male officers are part of the International Police Exchange or Star program.

They are in Huntsville to observe how police business is done in the United States.

They will also share procedures, community policing and policies.

"It's very important that we exchange the best practices and have more of a global view with the way we conduct policy in the United States," said Dr. Harry Hobbs. "They may do things a little differently from the way we do things. They may have different techniques that can help us, and we have some that may help them as well."

The officers have been in the valley since Saturday and will be in Huntsville until May 5.
