Ten of Bo Jackson's Auburn University teammates will be joining to ride the first leg of Bo Bikes Bama, a 50-plus mile trek from Henagar to Lake Guntersville, Ala. on Tuesday, April 24.
Jackson kicked off his tour Monday at 11:00am in Birmingham.
The Auburn 11 will take part in a ceremonial start to Jackson's five-day ride which will span 300 miles of the State of Alabama, touching the areas devastated by the tornados of April 2011.
Jackson's teammates set to ride are former offensive linemen Pat Arrington, Yann Cowart, Jay Jacobs, David Jordan and Ben Tamburello, quarterback Randy Campbell, receiver Tommy Carroll, running back Lionel James, defensive back Bob Harris and placekicker Al Del Greco.
"It's an honor to ride with my friend and former teammate as he begins his ride across Alabama to raise money for such a worthy cause," said Auburn Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs. "Our friends in Tuscaloosa and elsewhere in Alabama still have many unmet needs, so this is the least that we can do. I'm proud of Bo and the great ambassador he is not just for Auburn but also for the entire State of Alabama."
Tuesday's opening leg will begin at the Hudson Company on Hwy 75 in Henagar, Ala., and will take the riders through Rainsville, Fyffe and end at Lake Guntersville State Park.
"I just want to help support Bo in this adventure," said Jackson's former quarterback Randy Campbell. "I think it is a great thing that Bo would use his celebrity to help these tornado victims rebuild their lives. I am not much of a bike rider but I think I can tough out 50 miles, if he can do 300."
Auburn Executive Associate Athletic Director Tim Jackson also planned to participate. Jackson was set to ride the second leg of Bo Bikes Bama on Wednesday.
As of Monday, the Bo Bikes Bama efforts have raised over $250,000 towards his goal of $1 million. Fans can donate to the cause in two ways:
