NEW HOPE, AL (WAFF) -
A father and son face charges after police discover them growing hydroponic marijuana in their home in New Hope.
New Hope Police made the bust on First Avenue Thursday afternoon after receiving a call about a strong smell of Marijuana coming from outside the home. Police say when they entered the home, they found about a half-pound of the drug.
Officials arrested 54-year-old Jeff Sanderson and his son, and charged them with Marijuana possession.
Sanderson was booked in the Metro Jail on a $10,000 bond.
New Hope Police Captain Steven Dick said he and the police chief will not treat marijuana cases lightly and considers it just as serious as a meth lab bust.
Capt. Dick said the department has successfully attacked meth cases in recent years. He said the department can now focus on smaller- but still serious - problems like marijuana.
