SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -
Residents in Sheffield are battling an illegal dump site in a neighborhood.
Bob Wright is a homeowner in the neighborhood. He said trash has been piling up for years and they just want it cleaned up. Wright has lived in the area for the past nine years and is tired of what he sees.
"It's just a nuisance. It's rat infested, snake infested. We have to look at it every time we come down the highway," said Wright.
People have dumped more than just yard debris. You can see beds, chairs, and other house hold items in the illegal dump.
Wright and his neighbors have tried to stop the dumping in the past. They have taken the issue to the mayor's office and the housing authority. Wright said the only response they get is for them to burn it themselves.
"I think they should take it to a county landfill like everyone else does," said Wright.
On Monday, the Sheffield Mayor's office and Housing Authorities did not return calls for a comment on this story.
Residents in Sheffield want an illegal dumping site cleaned up.
