NEW HOPE, AL (WAFF) -

A fire broke out at a home in New Hope around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. 

It happened at the house on 1062 Johnson Avenue. 

A neighbor woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and saw flames shooting out of the house next door.

The neighbor called 911 and ran to the house to try to alert anyone inside. He banged on the door but there was no answer. The neighbor thinks the man who lives in that home was not in the house at the time of the fire.

Fire departments from New Hope, Big Cove, and Owens Cross Roads responded to the fire. When the firefighters arrived on the scene, the home was fully engulfed. Firefighters worked for over an hour to extinguish the fire. The fire marshal and the Red Cross were then called to the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown. and the fire marshal is investigating.
