Jacksonville State will hold its annual Football J-Day Game this Friday, April 13, at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium with Rick Burgess and Greg Burgess serving as Honorary Coaches.
The brothers are the sons of legendary Gamecock coach Bill Burgess, who led Jax State to the 1992 NCAA Division II National Championship and the playing field bears his name.
The "Rick and Bubba Show" is heard each weekday morning on their flagship station WZZK and on over 50 radio stations in 15 states, and can also be heard on XM Radio.
Rick is co-host of the widely popular show and will coach the White Team, which will be comprised of the first-team offense and the second-team defense.
The first-team offense is led by senior running back Washaun Ealey, a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection in 2011, who finished the season ranked second in the conference in rushing.
Ealey became Jacksonville State's 10th player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single-season after rushing for 1,082 yards on 178 carries. The Stillmore, Ga., native averaged 108.2 yards per game and was second on the team with nine touchdowns, including eight rushing touchdowns and one receiving.
Greg will coach the Red Team, which includes the first-team defense and the second-team offense.
The first-team defense is led by Rashad Smith, who led the Gamecocks with 77 total tackles in 2011.
Smith also had four tackles for loss, one interception, one pass break-up, two passes defended and one quarterback hurry. The Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., native ranked in the Top 20 in the Ohio Valley Conference a year ago.
The stadium gates will open at 4 p.m. and fans are asked to sit on the south side of the stadium and enter through the Main Ticket Plaza gates. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Concessions will include a $3 hotdog and soft drink combo, and fans will also have the opportunity to tour the Stadium Club Level and purchase season tickets. The Marching Southerners, along with the JSU Cheerleaders and Cocky, will also be hand during the event.
