FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A Boaz man is in the custody of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and cooperating with the investigation into the April 4th death of 17-year-old Alan Tarwater.

Investigators said 43-year-old Todd Lashane Thomas, of Boaz, turned himself in to the sheriff's office Monday. He was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and is being held on $3,000 bond.

Tarwater was found unresponsive in a mobile home on County Road 1931 by two other juveniles. Investigators said he apparently died while sleeping, but the reason has not been determined yet.

Investigators are gathering information about the events leading up to Tarwater's death. An autopsy was performed and the results should be back soon.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Thomas turned himself in because of the pressure of the search for him. The sheriff's office received numerous tips about Thomas' whereabouts in the five days leading up to his surrender.

Tarwater was a ward of the Marshall County Department of Human Resources.
