Bulldogs fall in extra innings

NORMAL – The Bulldog baseball team played their first 10 inning contest today versus Alabama State University but fell 12-8 in the first game of their three-game SWAC series.

A&M (6-25, 1-12 SWAC) was down a run until the bottom of the third when freshman Jordan Friend doubled and scored juniors Norbert Riggins and Walton Ashwander.

Alabama State then regained the lead with a two run two hit fourth inning.  The Bulldogs tied the score at three all in the bottom of the inning with a Dylan Johnson score.

The Hornets took the lead again in the sixth inning to go ahead 4-3.  The Maroon & White bats then got hot as A&M posted their best inning of the year with six hits and five runs to go ahead 8-4 after six.

Unfortunately that was all the scoring A&M could muster as State scored four runs in seventh, and tenth innings to pull out their fourth straight victory over A&M.

Freshman Ryan Bowling earned his fifth loss in relief for the Bulldogs after going 3.2 innings giving up the final four runs.

Alabama A&M did post a season high 16 hits but left five runners on base.

Johnson had a career day going 3 for 5 with two runs and a run batted in.  Deon Hall became the first Bulldog to post a home run over the new Maroon wall with a three run shot in sixth inning.

A&M and State will meet again on Saturday, April 7th, at noon for a double header to complete their regular season series.
