JACKSONVILLE, FL- The Huntsville Stars were fueled by two runs in the top of the ninth inning that eventually capped off a 5-4 come- from-behind victory against the Jacksonville Suns on Friday night.
Brock Kjeldgaard gave the Stars a 2-0 advantage with a two-out, two-run double in the third inning. Huntsville would hold a lead until the seventh inning where Suns first baseman Jaime Ortiz crushed a three-run homerun that would make the score 4-3 in favor of Jacksonville.
Not without a flair for the dramatic, Domnit Bolivar delivered a pinch-hit, RBI double to tie the game up in the ninth. Bolivar would then score the game-winning run the next at-bat on a sacrifice fly by Kentrail Davis.
On the pitching front, Huntsville starter Tyler Thornburg had a very impressive outing. The Stars top prospect earned a no-decision after pitching 5.0 innings of one-run ball, giving up just three hits and striking out seven Suns batters. RHP Josh Stinson earned the win for the Stars while pitching two innings in relief. RHP Santo Manzanillo stranded two runners in scoring position for a scoreless ninth inning that would give him his first save of the year.
Game three of a five-game season opening series with Jacksonville will begin at 7:05 ET with RHP Evan Anundsen taking the mount for Huntsville opposing RHP Matt Montgomery.
