Gov. Bentley to announce new mental health plans

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley is expected to reveal his new operating and patient treatment plan for the Department of Mental Health.

Bentley is scheduled to discuss the issue Friday at 2 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.

Bentley said the plan is the result of consultations with Alabama Mental Health Commissioner Zelia Baugh, lawmakers, and state mental health advisory board members.

In February, Baugh announced a plan to close 4 of 6 mental illness facilities in Tuscaloosa, Decatur, Montgomery and Mount Vernon and treat all mental illness patients in community settings.
