FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

The deadlock is over.

The Florence City Council voted to adopt a new resolution that would shut down the city's landfill.

It was a packed house on Tuesday night as the city council voted five to one in favor of shutting down the landfill.

The only council member not to vote in favor of the resolution was Councilman Hermon Graham.

The agreement will extend a temporary contract with the current company the city has hired to haul its trash to a regional landfill in Mississippi.

All members agree that at some point the garbage rates will increase for city residents, but it's unclear when and just how much they will increase.
