BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the fourth time this season a University of Alabama in Huntsville softball player has been selected as the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week as sophomore Mary Kelley captured the latest installment as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
She joins Kathryn Whitlock, Kelli Long, and Stephanie Needham as Chargers who have garnered the recognition.
Helping guide the Chargers to a 7-3 mark for the week, Kelley hit .469 while driving in 15 runs on the strength of four home runs. During the hot stretch, she notched five multi-hit games, and her most impressive performance of the week was a 3-for-3 showing against North Alabama which included two home runs and a double as she drove in six of UAH's 11 runs on the night.
For the season, she ranks third in the GSC in homers with eight while placing second in the league with 38 RBI, and her 14 doubles leads the conference.
Kelley and her teammates will return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Florida for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
