LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Authorities arrested a man for shooting and killing his grandmother at their home Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities were called to a shooting at a home on Lydia Corey Road just after 1 p.m.
Investigators said 33-year-old Jamie Pigg shot his grandmother, Barbara Delaney, and hit her in the head with a hammer. Decatur Police apprehended Pigg just before 3 p.m.
33-year James Pigg was booked into the Limestone County Jail.
The man who was mowing the lawn next door heard 69-year-old Delaney yelling for help saying her grandson hit her in the head with a hammer.
She collapsed in the backyard.
The witness told deputies Pigg came up to him, said everything was under control and walked back to the house, and that's when he heard two gunshots.
Investigators said Pigg then stole his grandmother's car and deputies didn't catch him until he made it to Decatur.
Deputies got a search warrant to collect Pigg's clothes, which apparently had blood on them.
Pigg was arrested for domestic violence in 2010 and has a number of drug charges. Just days ago, deputies served Pigg with an eviction notice to leave his grandmother's house.
