Two Universities prepare for The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge

Students from Alabama A&M University and Oakwood University got in one more day of practice before they compete with other schools from across the country in an academic competition.

The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge will start on March 30th and run through April 3rd. It's called the Great 48.  Forty-eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities will compete against each other in Los Angeles, California.

Alabama A&M professor and coach Barbara Jones said the student will have to answer questions on a wide range of topics.

"It can be pop culture, it can be the Bible, it can be literature, it could be science, it's any subject," said Jones.

Sunday, the students gathered at Oakwood University for a challenge. Victoria Donaldson is Alabama A&M team captain. She said there's a lot of work and studying involved.

"You have to do a lot of strategy work on to make sure you are able to answer the question fast or buzzing in faster," said Donaldson.

Oakwood's team captain Antoine Southern said it's special for him to be a part of something that helps schools.

While in Los Angeles, the students said they'll have a chance to meet new friends.

Each school will receive $1,000 for qualifying.
