Man dies after drowning in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

One person is dead after a drowning in Franklin County.

Officials say 37-year-old Francisco Javier-Chavez Martinez of Russellville drowned at Britton Bridge off Highway 49 in Cedar Creek Sunday.

Officials say he was in a makeshift kayak when the motor separated from the boat and he tried to swim after it and went under.

Rescue crews were called to scene around noon. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say he was boating alone at the time of the accident.

His body was sent off for an autopsy.
