HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police are searching for the gunman who shot a clerk inside a restaurant Saturday night.

Police say an armed robbery happened at the Best Wings restaurant on Meridian Street around 6:30. The gunman shot one of the clerks and stole money from the restaurant.

Police said the 16-year-old gave the robber cash and backed away into the kitchen but not before the offender fired two bullets; hitting the employee.

It didn't take long for nearby businesses to find out what happened.

"It's sad. It's very sad that people want to come out here and do this stuff. I thank god the boy's fine," said Belinda Stapler, who works at the store deli along Meridian Street.

Robert Hamlet manages a coin laundromat near Best Wings. He said he feels safe in his neighborhood but worries about crime creeping in from elsewhere.

"It's not so much that it's this area. It's like people coming out of other areas coming over to this area because people are not aware of their surroundings," Hamlet said.

It was the second time Best Wings was robbed. Police said two men robbed the restaurant at gunpoint in November but no one was hurt.
