Federal Appeals Court blocks more sections of Ala. immigration law

Posted: Updated:

A Federal Appeals Court issued a temporary block against two parts of Alabama's immigration law. This comes after a hearing last week in Atlanta.

The three judge panel issued their ruling late Thursday afternoon. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order blocking the section that says the courts cannot enforce contracts involving illegal immigrants.

They are also blocking the section that makes it a felony for an illegal immigration to do business with the state.

The Department of Justice challenged the law last year. A coalition of activists also appealed to the 11th circuit court of appeals.

The judges say they won't rule on all of the challenges until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the federal challenge to the immigration law in Arizona.
