The former President of the Southern League, Don Mincher, has passed away.
The Southern League is the baseball league that includes the Huntsville Stars, the Birmingham Barons, and other minor-league teams in the South East.
Mincher died Sunday night at his Huntsville home due to ongoing health problems.
He had just resigned from his position with the Southern League in October.
Mincher's spotlight career moment was when he played for the Oakland Athletics when they won the World Series in 1972.
Over his lifetime he played for the Minnesota Twins, California Angels, Seattle Pilots, Washington Senators, Texas Rangers, and the Oakland A's.
Mincher is the recipient of many honors including being inducted into Alabama's Sports Hall of Fame in 2008
Visitation and the Funeral will be held at Mayfair Church of Christ on Carl T. Jones in Huntsville.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
The Funeral will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
