A two-run double by Micah Reaves in the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and helped West Alabama gain a 6-3 win over North Alabama in the finale of a three-game series. UNA swept the Tigers on Saturday. With the loss, UNA is now 14-5 overall and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play. West Alabama is 8-10 and 1-2.
North Alabama jumped on top with a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Josh Cyr walked and J.P. LaMunyon followed with a single. Josh Carpenter moved them up with a sacrifice and Cyr then scored on a wild pitch. LaMunyon was sacrificed in by Andrew Almon. West Alabama cut it to 2-1 with a run in the third, combining a hit batter, a walk, a sacrifice and a ground-out to force in a run. The Tigers went on top with two runs in the fourth as Cody Dillard hit a two-run homer off UNA starter Chad Boughner. A solo shot by UNA's Josh Cyr in the sixth tied the game at 3-3.
Tyler Richburg reached on an error to start the West Alabama seventh and Chris Duncan followed with a double. A double by Reaves made it 5-3 and chased Boughner (2-2). Brantley Claunch retired six straigh batters in the seventh and eighth innings before Ben Seabrook allowed a run in relief in the ninth.
West Alabama out-hit UNA 9-7. LaMunyon was the only Lion with two hits.
UNA hosts Harding on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a double-header at Mike Lane Field.
