NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) -
Police received numerous reports of looting after tornados swept through Northern Alabama Friday.
Law enforcement is focusing on protecting the property of families whose homes were damaged.
Madison County Sheriffs arrested seven people for looting last night. Deputies also made contact with about 85 people in damaged areas. Police are checking to see if people belong in damaged areas or not.
Deputies say they are using night vision to patrol the areas because there is no power.
"If you go to a damaged area and you have no business there, you are probably going to be stopped. If it's determined that you have criminal intent, you are going to be arrested, you are going to be arrested," said Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning.
Police are on the lookout as recovery efforts get under way.
